On April 1st, newly back from my latest trip to Peru, I set off for the North, to set up my stand at the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate. This was my first time and the exhibition was being held in the newly rebuilt Hall 1 at the Great Yorkshire Show Ground. And what a wonderful venue it was! Light and airy with excellent facilities and friendly helpful staff. However that all paled into insignificance compared to the delights of the 400+ stands of British artistry and craftsmanship! What a treasure trove of delights, from wonderful jewellery and ceramics, tactile wood and bright cards and paintings. Textiles were in the minority but there were still a wide variety of printed, painted, knitted and felted items on show including my own printed, patchwork and quilted items in cotton.
Artists were happy to talk and many new contacts were made and advice given. I made some new friends and learned much from the reactions to my work, (mostly positive). Many people were interested in my tapestry from my internship with weaver, Maximo Laura (of which more in another post) and it was altogether an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. Thanks to all concerned for excellent organisation.
